We all touch our face and do things on a daily basis that may cause pimples or skin irritation. Below we have a few simple tips you can incorporate into your daily routine that will help promote healthy skin.
Wash Your Pillowcase and Sheets Weekly
Pillowcases and sheets can harbor bacteria which can lead to skin problems and breakouts. You rest your face on these linens each night and the bacteria that sits on them transfers to your skin. Make sure to wash your pillowcase and sheets one to two times a week to eliminate the accumulation of bacteria and germs.
Dirty Cell Phones
We all use our cell phones multiple times throughout the day and when we do so our phones touch our face. Your face produces oils and bacteria that gets transferred to your device. It is important to clean your phone so that you do not keep transferring dirt and oil back and forth causing unnecessary breakouts.
Dirty Eyeglasses
Like your phone, your eyeglasses accumulate oil and bacteria from your face. Make sure to cleanse your glasses daily so that dirt on your glasses does not transfer to your face.
Dirty Makeup Brushes
Makeup brushes harbor lots of bacteria and dirt which is transferred to your skin each time you use one. Wash your brushes after each use with a gentle cleanser to avoid unwanted skin irritation.
Avoid Touching Your Face
Touching your face can spread bacteria and dirt which can lead to clogged pores. Your hands are constantly touching things and pick up bacteria and dirt from the environment. Avoid touching your face and do not rest your chin in your hands. The less you touch your face the healthier your skin will be.
Avoid Licking Your Lips
Dry lips can be uncomfortable causing your lips to crack and burn. Do not lick your lips. By licking them you are making the problem worse. Use a lip balm several times a day to soothe chapped lips and keep a natural moisture balance.
Do Not Smoke
Smoking is not only bad for your overall health, it is bad for your skin. Smoking reduces your skin’s elasticity by damaging collagen and elastin, the fibers that give your skin strength and elasticity. As these fibers begin to breakdown your skin starts to sag and wrinkle leaving you with premature aging. Smoking causes a narrowing of the blood vessels that lead to the skin. This reduced blood flow inhibits oxygen and nutrients from getting to the skin. A lack of oxygen and nutrients results in poor skin health. The best thing for your skin is stop smoking.
By eliminating a few bad habits you are allowing your skin to stay healthy and look younger. As always, drinks lots of water and moisturize with your favorite moisturizer several times a day.
